Coaching youth sports?   It's harder than it looks. Why? The majority of kids under
age 12 signed up to have fun with their friends.  You signed up to coach.  If you are finding your
coaching experience to be frustrating and harder than you expected, you have come to the right
place.  Start with
Fundamentals for the Coach.  This area will give you some ideas for creating
your coaching philosophy and an understanding of the needs of this age group.  Then go to
Practice Principles.  No matter what sport you are coaching, this will help you create practices
that are efficient, effective and fun for all.
OUR PHILOSOPHY: We Coach Kids is designed to help the volunteer parent/
coach who is coaching kids ages 5-12. Your job is to make sure they have fun, develop good
habits and create an experience that will have them wanting to play again next season. We
give you an understanding from which to work, principles to guide your weekly practices,
games to use to make practices more fun while teaching skills, and a simple motivational
tool to help you coach.

Why patches?  A simple gesture that the
coach can use at practices or at games to
reward effort, teamwork, sportsmanship or
whatever you choose.

Its a great way to hold their attention during
the post game wrap while you point out a
positive thing each player contributed. Iron
them to caps, shirts, bags, whatever.
